The Commissionerate of Rural Development is implementing a number of centrally and state sponsored programmes in rural areas through the districts, for poverty reduction, employment generation, wage employment, rural infrastructure, rural housing, sanitation, women’s social and economic empowerment and provision of basic minimum services.
Commissionerate of Rural Development started its functions on 1987 January 24, as part of the decentralisation of the Rural Development Department. The administrative control and implementation of projects, supervision of activities etc. are entrusted with the Commissioner for Rural Development. At district level, the charge of the rural development activities are controlled by concerned District Collectors.
